We live in information silos. How do we break out of them?
Balance Your News Diet
One of the biggest obstacles to bridging the political divide is the polarization of our news. In my journey to bridge the divide, I continually come up against this huge obstacle: liberals and conservatives cannot agree on what is actually happening. Each controversial event like Charlottesville or Jan 6th is interpreted through our polarized news sources and so we live with radically different understandings of what is happening in our country. And when we argue for our version of reality with the other side, it often seems like it just makes it worse and leaves everyone frustrated. So what is a solution to this serious problem? My recommendation is that all of us try to diversify our news diet. While this is not a cure all for the problem, at the very least, you can understand what the other side is thinking and how they are coming up with their point of view on the issues of the day. I also realize that trying to keep up with a diverse range of news sources is a very massive and intimidating task. So I found three different ways that can help you in this endeavor by being more efficient. I use each of these non-partisan organizations listed below to help me dive deeper into the news and understand where others are coming from and it takes a lot less time than visiting an unwieldy number of news sites. It is more effort, but isn't it worth it, if it helps us build community in our country? (Click the title to get their web sites.) All sides. AllSides is an American company that assesses the political bias of prominent media outlets, and presents different versions of similar news stories from sources of the political right, left, and center, in a mission to show readers news outside their filter bubble. Left Right Center Left, Right, & Center is a weekly hour-long public radio program and podcast that provides a "civilized yet provocative antidote to the self-contained opinion bubbles that dominate political debate" Flip side This is a one-stop shop for smart, concise summaries of political analysis from both conservative and liberal media. Their goal is to become a news source for liberals, moderates, independents, conservatives, and even the apolitical.

The fundraising campaign for THE QUESTION is going very well! After just two weeks, through our fiscal sponsor, Film Projects, we have raised $8000 or 63% of our 12700 goal. Through Indie Gogo, we have raised $5,629, or 68% of our $8300 goal. So total, we have raised $13,629 or 68% of our overall goal of 20,000!
